Day 20: November 18, 2012
How’s that for a post title? Are you curious what’s going to happen next? Me too. You see, we had these nails just hanging out in the header above the new opening. If you remember, we removed the existing wall, tried to salvage the original studs to make the half wall, then just built a whole new half wall. In the photo below you can see all the nails sticking out.
We had to cut the nails with an angle grinder since we were not able to pull or hammer them out. And by “we” I mean Paul. Paul cut the nails while I squinted, played photographer and supervised. He loves when I supervise.
A sad little nail.
After all the nails were cut we had to decide the placement and quantity of the future pendants over the breakfast bar. Blue solo cups and green painters tape were on hand so they quickly became our faux pendants. First, we placed the blue solo cups on the half wall to determine the spacing. We decided to hang three pendant lights since odd numbers tend to look best in design and we felt 4 pendants would’ve been a little cramped.
After we had the spacing figured out we hung the blue solo cups with painters tape to help visualize. Beautiful, right? It looks silly, but it really did help us with the process. Once we had our spacing and placement figured out we marked the stud with a marker so my brother would know where to install the electrical boxes.
This photo makes me want to sing Red Solo Cup. Anyone else already singing the song? What’s everyone else using their Solo Cups for? You keep singing and I’ll be back with the second half of Day 20. This was an eventful day and we were able to cross off many items on our list.
