Irish For The Weekend

I ventured out of town this weekend for St. Patty’s day shenanigans and some much needed relaxation.    In usual fashion, I snapped photos along the way to document the fun-filled weekend.  I am not Irish, but pretended to be for the weekend.

Friday, I left with my cousin and we drove north to our second homes, Breezy Point.  Saturday morning we got up early to run the first annual Clover Dash 5k, part of Crosslake’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.  It was a balmy 13 degrees at 9am!  We dressed in layers and ran into the wind (literally- for the first 2 miles).  Brrrrr!  We finally felt warm for the last mile of the run.

After our morning events, we decided to head back into Crosslake and check out Peoples Antique shop before heading to the 40th annual parade.  If you’re ever in the area and enjoy a vintage treasure hunt you should stop in for a gander.  There is so much to look at!

The streets of Crosslake were flooded with green and everyone is Irish.  Even the dogs.  The rest of the afternoon was filled with parade floats, hilarious green attire, green beverages, local bars, live music and good company.  Corned beef, cabbage and red potatoes is the traditional family style dinner.  And for desert?  Chocolate and pistachio pudding shots!  More on those later.  😉

After a full day of “being Irish” I was exhausted.  The next day consisted of a whole-lot-ta relaxing: pajamas, hot tub, cozy fireside naps and a movie or two.  I am retiring my green attire until next year’s celebrations.  Did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend or today?  Perhaps you’re celebrating right this very minute?  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
